Parents are fed up.
More parents than ever have decided to pull their kids out of public school and homeschool them instead.
Things like book bans, bullying, school district politics, and school shootings all contribute to the growing homeschool trend. Parents are opting out of public school so they can equip their children with the safety, learning skills, and truthful 21st century knowledge they need to grow into successful adults.
Shocker, right?

Book Bans
Let's start with, in my opinion, one of the more appalling educational roadblocks. I'm talking about highly-regarded books that kids aren't allowed to read in libraries or public school classrooms. Texas, Florida, and Pennsylvania are the worst offenders, but there are about a dozen more GOP states that participate. Here's a list of some of the most recognized forbidden books:
- The Catcher in the Rye
- To Kill a Mockingbird
- The Kite Runner
- 1984
- The Color Purple
- Of Mice and Men
- The Bluest Eye
- The Grapes of Wrath
- Animal Farm
- The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
- Lord of the Flies
- A Farewell to Arms
- The Great Gatsby
Bullying
This next subject is heartbreaking. Kids are relentlessly bullied at school for doing or being anything different from the norm.
Here's a sobering statistic from Education Week:
"A Pew Research Center survey of parents conducted in the fall of 2022 found that nearly three-quarters of parents said they were either very or somewhat concerned about their child being bullied."
Some of the worst cases end up with the bullied child committing suicide. Like I said before, heartbreaking. Parents who have suffered a loss like this, live the rest of their lives with a broken heart that never heals.

Divisive school politics
Far-right parent groups like Moms for Liberty have no doubt contributed to the mass exodus from public schools.
Their agenda? They oppose any school curricula that mention LGBTQ+ rights, race and ethnicity, critical race theory, and discrimination. That means they're against any educational resource that mentions anything related to social progress.
Huh?
And they're not alone. Moms for Liberty is the largest of the so-called 'parental rights' groups, but there are many others like them that have become power players in GOP politics. Sad, but true.

School shootings
Not much left to say here. It's cruel and despicable. Period.
Finally, as a parent with grown kids, if I had been faced with the same circumstances that parents are facing today, I wouldn't hesitate pulling my kids out of public school and homeschooling them instead.

Okay. Rant over. For now.
